By Ahmed Fawzy
Renowned soprano Amira Selim is undergoing intensive rehearsals in Doha as she prepares to participate in the closing ceremony of the Egyptian Cultural Week in Qatar tomorrow, Friday, January 31. The event will take place at Dar Al Saai in Doha at 7:00 PM.
The concert is part of efforts to enhance cultural exchange between Egypt and Qatar by showcasing various aspects of Egyptian culture. The week has featured diverse musical performances, including Arabic music, religious chants, folk singing, and more. The event is held under the patronage of the Egyptian and Qatari Ministries of Culture.
Amira Selim stated, “I was invited by Dr. Ahmed Fouad Henawy, the Minister of Culture, to participate in the closing ceremony of the Egyptian Cultural Week in Qatar. Through this performance, I aim to present Egypt in a different light compared to the performances showcased during the week. The concert will blend the ancient Egyptian spirit with global music and singing, demonstrating our ability to connect with the world by presenting classical and Western works in French, Italian, and English.”
She added, “I will be joined by a musical trio of my friends and fellow artists: Salah Abdullah, Ahmed Okman, and Gamal Alaa El-Din, who will play the piano, double bass, and percussion instruments. The program will, of course, include the ‘Isis Anthem,’ which is requested everywhere I perform, as well as the ancient Egyptian love song ‘Merut Ek,’ and songs I previously performed for the late, great Sayed Darwish. Additionally, there will be many surprises that I will present for the first time in a new style and with unique arrangements.”
The final day of the cultural week, hosted by Amira Selim, will also include a cultural seminar titled “50 Years Since the Passing of the Star of the East, Umm Kulthum,” presented by journalist Mahmoud El-Tamimi, as well as a screening of the restored version of the film “The Mummy” by the late director Shadi Abdel Salam.
