“The ministers discussed a number of urgent issues in bilateral relations and on the international agenda, including the situation in the Middle East and around the Ukrainian crisis,” the ministry said in a statement.

It also said Lavrov discussed the situation in and around Lebanon with former Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri in Abu Dhabi.

Lavrov also held talks with UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and also took part in the 15th Sir Bani Yas International Peace and Security Forum.

“Sergey Lavrov outlined Russia’s basic assessments and reflections on the current geopolitical situation, including the situation in and around Ukraine,” the statement by the Foreign Ministry read.

The ministers expressed confidence that the UAE’s accession to BRICS as a full member will strengthen the political, economic, scientific, technological and human potential of this association and create additional opportunities for coordination on pressing global issues as well as bilateral interaction.
